Children’s music therapy services are led by Melissa DeLong, LPMT, MT-BC (licensed professional and board-certified music therapist.) Music therapy is an evidence-based profession that uses music experiences to support developmental, cognitive, communication, motor, sensory, emotional, and social goals. Services begin with an individualized assessment to identify each child’s strengths, needs, and goals. A personalized therapy plan is then created, with ongoing evaluation and communication with parents and other professionals as needed to support progress. Children participate in engaging music experiences tailored to their individual needs, interests, and goals. Sessions may include singing, movement, instrument playing, songwriting, music listening, sensory experiences, creative play, and more. Collaboration with occupational therapists (OT), physical therapists (PT), speech-language pathologists (SLP), teachers, medical providers, counselors, and IEP teams can help reinforce common goals across settings and create a coordinated approach to care.
